Love Does

I didn’t expect to be cut in two in the wee hours of the morning one night not long ago, but halved is what I was. As usual lately, I couldn’t sleep and I figured 3am was as good a time as any to start the new book by Bob Goff called Love Does: Discover A Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World.  Bob lives in my neighborhood and I thought I’d be supportive and so I ordered it for my Kindle.  I wanted to read to help me fall back asleep but it had the reverse effect as I remained wide awake until dawn, unable to put it down. As the sun came up, I had finished the whole thing. Every last morsel.  The next morning, I was physically exhausted– but my spirit was energized.

Not many books grab me by the throat. If you really want to know the truth, I’m actually a cynic anymore when it comes to books labeled “Christian” as I think there is sooooo much of the same ol’ same ol’ out there.  So many are nice… but not that many actually knock you off your feet.  Few inspire you to muster up the guts to go and just simply be somebody different.

This book did that for me. Knocked me clean off my high heels.  Bob’s adventurous, no-holds-barred style makes me want to go and be a better person. I am a doer by nature, but Bob has inspired me to get out there and grab life by the throat even more. And isn’t that why we go to the movies, take a walk on the beach, visit a natural wonder… or read a book anyway? We want to come out on the other end answering the question “why should I spend precious time on THIS?”… and have it answered with “because it’ll change how you think”. This book has done that for me and has kicked me in the backside to get up and go DO that thing I say I FEEL.  Love Does.

Order Love Does on Amazon.

  1. Your blog is very good. I’m putting this book on my “to read” list … never heard of it before you wrote about it.

Thanks for blogs that are right on!

  2. “Love Does” is a great book! Each chapter reveals Bob’s character through his adventurous life. I’ve heard him tell a few of these stories, but the book gives more details. Love his whimsy, courage, and style!

  3. WOW. I will get the book asap. Thanks for this latest blog. Life has been very hard lately but your music and the blogs have sheltered me from the worst of it. Thanks for walking with God and showing us how to do it as well.

    1. Ann- I will pray for you right this minute during this difficult time. And thank you for taking the time to leave a post here– I hope you enjoy the book. I think it will buoy your spirits!

  4. Loved reading your response to LOVE DOES. I read it also and was blown away at how Bob just DOES what so few of us have the guts to do – love extravagently! And,Iagree. I read a ton – but too often finish a book – or sadly set it aside without finishing – and ask, “So what?” When, you have an answer that moves you toward action, the book speaks back to you with, “That’s what!”

    Keep those blogs coming!

  5. Definitely will have to pick up a copy! I always enjoy reading your blog. It’s become my new addiction 🙂 Keep it up.

  6. My wife and I read this book just this weekend. I’m not much of a reader but honestly couldn’t put it down like you described. It’s true that it inspires you.

  7. This book was given to me a few weeks ago and it’s been sitting on my desk ever since. Thank you for this review. Now I WILL read it!

I don’t know you but recently was told about your blog. I like what you say and look forward to reading more.
